biography
Growing up in a musically-enriched environment, Haarlem-born and raised Alain Clark’s young ears were inundated at a young age with the glorious sounds of classic soul and R&B.
Constantly exploring, evolving and broadening his musical spectrum ever since his early teens, Alain found his passion for music as an artistic way of expression, articulating personal emotions informed by universal topics such as life, love and introspection, reflecting the inner state of the artist through music.
Wholly committed, Alain honed his craft as a musician, creating and mastering his own signature blended formula of contemporary melodies, infectious harmonies and soulful rhythm.
From local performances to demo studio recordings, from a creative stint in Los Angeles to big venue shows back home, these were all important chapters in Alain’s musical development, as he steadily built on a solid career as a gifted multilingual singer, writer, composer, producer and guitarist.
With recognition for his talents flourishing, so did his accomplishments and accolades: A major recording contract, a string of hit singles and multi platinum albums, numerous prestigious awards including the Dutch Zilveren Harp, 3FM Award and Edison Music Award, and live performances at highly regarded national and international stages such as North Sea Jazz, Concertgebouw, Montreux Jazz, as well as taking stages as supporting artist for Bryan Adams, Lenny Kravitz, Diana Ross and Amy Winehouse, just to name a few.
As an artist and songwriter, Alain has worked with many critically acclaimed fellow musicians, including Fluitsma & Van Tijn, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Bo-Saris, Jan Smit, Ali B, Diane Birch, Steve Gadd, Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, Dean Parks, Pino Palladino, and his own father Dane Clark (of Dane and the Dukes of Soul), with whom he achieved a major success with their heart-warming duet ‘Father and Friend’.
Continuing his storied journey, Alain is currently readying his next body of work titled ‘Sunday Afternoon’, written and produced between Amsterdam and Los Angeles by the artist himself in collaboration with musician, producer and songwriter Justin Stanley (Prince, Eric Clapton, Jamie Lidell, et al.), and a live band comprised of the very talented trio Kaveh Rastegar on bass, Deron Johnson on keys, and Aaron Redfield on drums.
With a brand new album on the horizon and a group of phenomenal live musicians to bring his musical vision to life, one of Alain Clark’s main goals for 2020 is to take this music on the road and share it on stage as a bonafide musician who continues to redefine himself at every corner.
