biography
AñaVañA (pronounced onya-vonya) is a rock/reggae band from New York City. Melodic, original and colorful, AñaVañA’s songs combine groovy danceable beats with hypnotizing and dreamy vocals. Appealing to pop, rock, world and reggae fans in equal measure, “AñaVañA” construct a unique sound, which heretofore was only available to those attending their numerous New York and east coast club dates. Immediately following the witnessing of a mind-blowing concert in Central Park in the fall of 2003, Zip Records requested the demos for AñaVañA’s debut album. In the right place at the right time, Zip Records was the fortunate label to jump on the bandwagon for a group with undeniable appeal and incredible musical pedigree. Consisting of Annastasia Victory (vocals, songwriter, piano), Ian C. Bouras (song- writer, guitar), Dan Paccione (bass) and Ryan Cavan (drums), AñaVañA is the latest incarnation of the two AñaVañA songwriters’ formidable musical careers. Annastasia and Ian were nominated as the top Billboard songwriters for the year of 2003 (for their work with newly created AñaVañA). Their songs were also included in the top 18 finalists of the 2002 Windrift International Songwriting Competition. More recently, album track “Colors Fading’ placed in the top 5 for the Song Of The Year competition as well as second place in the Compo 10 competition. The track “Taken”Away” placed second in the Song Of The Month competition in February 2004. Aside from writing all original music for their band to perform, Annastasia and Ian have also written numerous pieces for commercials, video projects and their songs have been included in several prestigious independent films. Resident house band at trendy N.Y. clubs Madame X and Evelyn Lounge, AñaVañA performed and honed their mix of world, pop, rock, Latin, reggae and funk on a weekly basis in 2003 and 2004. For further evidence of their versatility, AñaVañA landed touring gigs in the U.K. with the Grace United Methodist Gospel Choir and performed with the hit-making disco group “Musique”!
