biography
JB Meijers is one of the key figures in the Dutch music world. After working with many bands in the 90’s, JB developed an affinity for studio production and sound engineering. A parallel career on the road and in the studio developed. Some of the highlights during this period were productions for the Beastie Boys, Spiritualized, Kula Shaker, Zakk Wylde, Acda and de Munnik, Ellen ten Damme, Josh Homme and Zita Swoon.
The next big turning point came when the famous Dutch band De Dijk asked him to join as guitarist. This resulted in a 16 year collaboration and a second Popprijs recognition. When not on extensive tours with De Dijk, JB managed to both play in the band of Acda and de Munnik and collaborate with the legendary soul singer Solomon Burke. When not playing, writing or producing, Meijers found time to respond to requests for musical arrangements. He developed musicals for the Dutch and German market, and wrote several prominent arrangements for multiple Grammy winning Metropole Orkest (Amsterdam).
In the early 2000’s he continued to be an “in demand” producer and songwriter. The variety of artists extended from Bløf, Kane and Daryll-Ann to Howie Gelb and Ken Stringfellow.
Meijers first solo album ‘Catching Ophelia’ (2009) was named album of the year by Lust for Life Magazine.
The 2011 album “See You on the Ice” by Carice van Houten saw JB Meijers take on a big role in not only writing and production, but also bringing together a diverse collection of international names to add their unique touches to the album.
Ilse de Lange was instrumental in the next phase of JB’s musical career. After a successful collaboration on a Dutch musical production, De Lange invited Meijers to participate in her “side project” The Common Linnets. Soon thereafter, Meijers penned the massively successful song Calm After the Storm. Coming in second at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, it became a Number 1 hit in 20 countries, a Top 10 in another 30 countries and charted in a total of 60 countries worldwide. At this point in time, The Common Linnets are responsible for one international platinum and one gold award winning album.
JB Meijers is the only Dutch artist to have won 3 Pop Prijs awards - a feat accomplished through affiliation with The Common Linnets, De Dijk and Eboman. In addition to numerous production and songwriting projects from 2018 through 2020, JB Meijers has co-produced the MTV Unplugged album by the famous German rocker Peter Maffay. He continues to tour and produce with Maffay and was responsible for the new chart buster Maffay album ‘Jetzt’. Currently JB is also the lead guitar player for the American indie rock band Mercury Rev.
Meijers third solo album will appear on Zip Records in early 2021 with the first single “Masters/Masses released in October 2020.
