Race Car Hearts is the creative guise for English singer/songwriter Chris Perrin.
Chris fell in love with the guitar aged 14, after hearing Neil Young’s ‘Live Rust’ album, at which point he immediately sold nearly everything he owned in order to purchase his first acoustic guitar. He began writing songs and performing as a solo artist in local folk clubs in and around Peterborough, UK.
Aged 16, Chris met drummer Mark Denney (Attack! Vipers!) at Portsmouth College and, after bonding over their shared love of Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr, they formed the band THIRST. The group signed to ZIP Records in the US and experienced strong reviews from the rock press for output, including the debut album ‘From Mouth To Skin’. They performed across the US and Europe, supporting the likes of Bush, Feeder, Therapy?, Llama Farmers, The Levellers, and Evan Dando (Lemonheads), before splitting.
Following the split, Chris spent time writing and performing acoustically before starting Race Car Hearts as a solo project in 2010. He teamed up with acclaimed producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals) to record an album’s worth of material, and soon after signed a publishing deal with Rainbird Music Ltd.
Race Car Hearts released their debut UK EP ‘Tender Violent’ in November 2012, which drew comparisons to Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and The Cure, and was described by critics as ‘thought-provoking’ and ‘spell-binding’. The EP’s first single ‘Mother Midnight’ has been picked up by Sky Sports for use during their 2013 Premier League coverage. The follow up UK EP 'Aches/Escapes' is set for release on October 7th 2013, and the debut Race Car Hearts album ‘Silent Momentum’ is set for release in the US & Canada via Zip Records on October 15th 2013.
Chris currently performs as Race Car Hearts across the UK, sometimes with the backing of a full band and sometimes solo with only his acoustic guitar for company. His performances have helped Race Car Hearts form a strong fan base, along with very favourable reviews.
