biography
Birgit is a storyteller. Whether singing, or acting , Birgit takes you into her story of that moment. In this way, she has managed to build a very diverse, colorful and impressive career in the Netherlands over the years. When Birgit was 21 years old, she took her first steps into the spotlight as a singer. And now, many years later, she has four albums, many television series, cinema films, plays and musicals to her name.
Birgit released her first album Few Like Me (2 Edison nominations) in 2001. Over the years, this was followed by albums', in 2024, Sticky Tales, True Stories I Made Up and A Fool For Love.
After making her acting debut in 2004 in the film Floris, many other beautiful roles followed in series and films such as: Lieve Lust, Meisje van Plezier, De Eetclub, Lotus, Black Out, Rokjesdag, Uilenbal and Pijnstillers (Rembrandt Award nomination, Best Dutch actress).
Birgit is also building up a considerable CV in the theater with productions such as: De Jantjes, Sexual Perversity, Prison Monologues I & II, De Gouden Koets, The Last 5 Years (Musical Award, Best Female Lead), Vijftig Tinten…de Parodie (Musical nomination). Award, Best Female Lead) and What My Husband Doesn't Know.
And now, in 2024, her new single Struikelen is released. This first song is from her new album and theater tour of the same name. This tour which will see the light of day at the end of September with a series of tryouts. After singing in Dutch in musical theater performances for years, she now believes it is was time to write her own songs in her own language. The tracks contain honest lyrics, taken from her life and loves. During the summer of 2024, Birgit can be seen and heard at Oerol with her new music. The STRUIKELEN theater tour will follow in the autumn, with the premiere in Amsterdam's De Kleine Komedie on October 8.
