biography

Fingerprint is the name of the collective featuring Dutch trumpeter Jan van Duikeren. In 2010, Van Duikeren, who for many years was one of the leading Dutch trumpet soloists and also a sought-after sideman all over the world, decided that it was time to present his musical vision under his own name. This resulted in his debut album, accompanied by a collective of musically like-minded people with similar track records.

The first album named ‘Jan van Duikeren - Fingerprint’ was released in 2011 and not only generated rave reviews but also accumulated an extraordinary amount of airplay - which is exceptional for an instrumental album.

Jan van Duikeren also heralded a new musical direction for the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), which incorporated his compositions and were recorded and released live in Big Band form in 2015 under the name Scribblin’.

Following this was a tour of Japan, where Fingerprint compositions are still played with great regularity. Busy touring schedules and guest appearances delayed any followup recordings. It took until 2022 for the long-awaited sequel to be released. On ‘Pleasure As Usual’ we hear powerful compositions with influences of gospel, be-bop, funk and hip-hop, played by the scene’s leading musicians, who complement and stir each other up in this swinging potpourri of styles. In addition to Jan van Duikeren, Fingerprint consists of Tom Beek (tenor sax), Salle de Jonge (drums, producer), Hugo den Oudsten (bass guitar) and Timothy Banchet (keyboards). Special guests include Shirma Rouse (vocals) and Jesse van Ruller (guitar).
